This Halloween, if the kids are looking for a good fright, this list is sure to give the whole family a scary good time. Don't let the PG ratings fool you: these movies let your imagination run wild. And sometimes that's the best thrill of all. 

10 Spooky Shows & Movies 

1. The Addams Family (2019)

The latest animated installment of the Addams Family is full of spooky vibes and lots of laughs. This will keep kids of all ages enthralled and even leave them with ghoulishly-good lesson: don't judge a book by its cover. For a throwback, check out the older iterations of the Addams Family, all of which are family-friendly.

2. Coraline (2009)

This stop-motion adaptation of Neil Gaiman's book is a modern, spooky classic. When Coraline enters an alternate dimension, she quickly discovers that there's more to her "other family" than meets the eye. 

3. Gremlins (1984)

They might be cute, but don't feed them after midnight! This creepy classic is perfect for a spooky night in. If you grab some snacks, be sure to keep them safe!

4. The Haunted Mansion (2003)

While more comedy than horror, there are plenty of ghosts and ghouls to satisfy you. This movie is based on the classic Disney ride with a story that is sure to bring the family together in ghastly delight.

5. Monster House (2006)

Don't let this movie's cute animation fool you—you're in for a scare! Three kids must band together to fight a possessed house and save the neighborhood from destruction. While peppered with some laughs, this movie is truly haunting. 

6. Ghostbusters (1984)

Another spooky classic sure to win over the family—Ghostbusters. Chock full of ghosts, you'll satisfy any kids longing for some scares, and get a few laughs too. If they like the original, they might enjoy Ghostbusters (2016) or the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, both of which have a higher rating of PG-13. 

7. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)

Scooby-Doo is beloved across generations, and this is one of Mystery Inc's scariest iterations. While the gang typically faces off against humans disguised as ghosts and ghouls, this movie has real zombies. If you've got Scooby-Doo fans in the family, don't skip out on this classic. 

8. Goosebumps (2015)

While any Goosebumps movie is likely to hit the spot, the latest installment is a little more kid-friendly. Jack Black leads the cast with great comedic timing, and it's more thrilling than down-right scary. Incidentally, the older the Goosebumps title, the scarier it gets. For maximum thrills, the television show is sure to provide hours of scare-time. 

9. Paranorman (2012)

Paranorman is another spooky stop-motion you won't want to miss. This one has a bit of magic and a lot of zombies, without the gore and terror. Instead, you'll get creepy-crawlies and a story with a lot of heart. 

10. Casper (1995)

You can't forget the ghost with the most—Casper! Casper may be a friendly ghost, but his uncles aren't so nice. Enjoy this light-hearted ghost story with the whole family.
